この話のヒーロー。敬称はElang'anmi。 21歳。別名悪魔の王子(The Demon Prince)として市井の人から恐れられている。半人半龍のハーフ。半分竜(竜側の片方の目は真っ黒に見えて深い灰色)で鱗は青、こめかみから黄色い角、半分人間(黄金の瞳)。爬虫類系の虹彩。少し日焼けした肌に細い顎。肌綺麗な美形。西海の主、第3至高界の王子(Lord of the western seas, Prince of the third supreme kingdom)。人間の前に出る時は基本顔全体、もしくは片側を覆う黒い仮面をつけている。祖父により追放後自分の王国も奪われる。アイロンに戻り祖父から玉座奪還を狙う。呪われているので恋に落ちることができない。両親は死亡している。
私がコミケに来た最大の理由は、Morgana and Ozという英語の漫画の作者、Miyuli先生(ドイツ在住)のサイン会とファンミーティング、あと先生のブースでの買い物をしたかったから。ファンミーティング主催者の方と連絡を取ったら一緒に回ってくださるとこのことで、まずは10時半からのサイン会のためにホール1へ。ここでその方と合流しました。
(Morgana and Ozは、落ちこぼれ魔女のMorganaと彼女の魔法の暴走で猫に変えられてしまった吸血鬼Oz（ちなみに魔女と吸血鬼は敵対関係)とのラブコメファンタジーです。気になった人はぜひWebtoonで読んでね!)
このあと、同じホール内で出店されていた、Silly Studioという漫画会社のブースで、The Little Trashmaidという私の好きな漫画の本を買いました。そしたらまさかのブースの作者の先生ご本人が居て好きなイラストのスケッチとサインを書いてくださいました！！この先生もSNSフォロワー100万人近くいる先生なので、こんなさらっとご降臨されているとは思わずびっくり(誰も待っていなかったし)。国際的な人気クリエーターと、この距離で交流できるのとても嬉しかったです。

(余談。The Little Trashmaidというのは、ゴミまみれの現代の海に住む人魚の女の子と人間の男の子たちの交流を描いたブラックユーモア溢れるコメディ作品。売上の一部が環境保護系の寄付に回されたりしています！そしてアニメ化進行中らしい。気になる方はWebtoonで！)
ここでは無料で聴けるコンサートやライブ、日本文化体験エリアがあります。午後にも戻ってきたんですが、その時はドイツ人の歌手2人組Myu・Gakuという方々が、オリジナル曲と日本のアニソンを歌っていました。その時はAimerさんのI Beg Youでしたが、日本語の歌を日本人みたいに歌っていてすごかったです。予約とかなしで、行って好きな席に座れました。冷房効いていたのと、ライブがあるコンサート部屋以外はわりと空いている空間でガラガラだったので、涼みに＆休憩しにくるに穴場かかなと思いました。
こちらはR18エリア。Miyuli先生のブースがこちらだったのでお買い物に。新作は売り切れていましたが、通販等はしていないMorgana and Ozのキーホルダーやポストカードを買えてよかったです。結構がっつり年齢指定から、イラストかわいいBLみたいなのが多かったです。ゾーニングがきっちりされているのはいいですね！！
引き続きヴァイオレット・エヴァーガーデンの聖地巡りをしています。ヴァイオレット・エヴァーガーデンアニメ5話に登場した、シャルロッテ姫の住む「ドロッセル王国」。そのお城のモデルでは？と個人的に思っているのが、フランスの「シュノンソー城Château de Chenonceau)」です。(公式は明言していませんが、見た目からして明らかにそうなので！！個人的には聖地として扱います！！）。
シュノンソー城（Château de Chenonceau）は、フランスのロワール渓谷にある白亜の古城。シェール川を橋のようなギャラリーという部分がまたぐように建てられています。このギャラリーが特にドロッセル王国のお城かもという決め手になる構造！水辺の白鳥とお呼ばれています。16世紀以降、アンリ2世の愛妾ディアーヌ・ド・ポワティエや王妃カトリーヌ・ド・メディシスなど、6人の女性が城主を務めた歴史がある、ルネサンス様式の建物です。 ロワール渓谷の古城たちは、2000年に「シュリー＝シュル＝ロワールとシャロンヌ間のロワール渓谷」として世界文化遺産に登録されています。シュノンソー城も含めて、シャンボール城やブロワ城など有名なお城が点在しています（ツアーだとこの辺を日帰りで巡るスケジュールが多いイメージです）。
まずはお城に続く道から向かって右側、アンリ2世の愛妾として有名なディアーヌ・ド・ポワチエ(Diane de Poitier)の庭園へ。こちらの方が広いですが噴水はないです！

今度は道から向かって右側、アンリ2世の王妃カトリーヌ・ド・メディシス(Catherine de Médicis)の庭園へ。こちらは小さめで噴水があります。つまりこの庭園、アンリ2世の正妻と愛妾のバチバチが城を挟んで行われているという。わ〜お。ちなみに噴水自体ができたのはここ数十年らしくてカトリーヌ・ド・メディシスは関係ないらしい(この庭園を作ったのはカトリーヌだけど)。
あと、聖地というより考察かもですが、シャルロッテ王女の部屋にある肖像画(手紙を書いているときに見える)、多分マルティン・フォン・メイテンス 「１２歳のマリー・アントワネットの肖像」(Martin van Meytens, Marie Antoinette Aged 12)という絵のオマージュだと思います。シャルロッテ姫はブリューゲルに嫁ぐという設定なので、背景としてもあってますね！
最初は3島全部行って聖地巡りしようかと思っていたんですが、時間がなかったことと、事前にグーグルアース等で下調べした感じ、モデルになっているならイニシュモア島の方だなとあたりをつけたので、イニシェモア島のみ上陸、他の2島はクルーズしながら海から眺めるというプランにしました。ちなみに、ただの往復ではなく3島巡る方にすると、帰りの便でハリーポッターの聖地のモハーの断崖（Aillte an Mhothair/ The Cliffs of Moher、「破滅の崖」)まで回ってくれるのでことが見るできますよ。（ちなみにモハーの断崖自体はアイルランド本土にあるので正確にはアラン諸島ではないんですが、アラン諸島に行くフェリーに乗ると海側から観れるという)
フェリー会社Aran Island Ferriesというところでチケットを予約しました。メールで QRコードつきのチケットが送られてきます。
ゴールウェイ-イニシェモア間の往復だと学生38ユーロですが、私はゴールウェイ→イニシェモア島→モハーの断崖を巡る学生50ユーロのツアーにしました(正式にはAran Islands and Cliffs of Moher Day Tourというコースです)。色々選択肢あるのでご自身の都合のよいものを選択してただければ。ちなみに4-9月がメインシーズンのようで、それ以外の日程だと選択肢が減るそうなのでご注意ください！特にゴールウェイから出発するのは、オフシーズンだとなさそうです！通年だとRossaveelという場所から出ているのもありますが、ゴールウェイから40km離れた場所です！！(ヨーロッパはオフシーズン以外に行くとこうやって交通手段が激減するパターンがあるので、特にマイナーな場所行く時はお気をつけください。私はオフシーズンギリギリで、でも交通手段があるオンシーズンを狙って高額と人混みを避けることが多いです)
Hi, I am Satsuki, a fan of Violet Evergarden, and I love visiting model places in real life locations! In April 2022, I visited the real-life location of the Violet Evergarden Gaiden side story in Germany — Cochem (Germany, Cochem).
“Where exactly are the real-life model locations?”
“How do you get around the town?”
I’ll answer these questions from my perspective, since I arranged the entire trip myself! If you read this, you’ll be able to explore on your own without joining a tour!
First, I read the blog below and got some ideas about the model places. The author of this blog is the one who really identifies the model places. I really would like to thank him for providing us these treasure of information.
This article contains major spoilers for the side story! Please read at your own risk.
Due to copyright issues, I will not use or quote any anime images except for some officially released materials. Instead, I describe the scenes in writing. It may be a bit hard to visualize, but I appreciate your understanding!
How to Get to Cochem
Departing from Koblenz
The day before, I stayed in the German city of Koblenz, which has convenient transportation access, so I departed from there. (In another article, I plan to share a model itinerary from Japan and introduce what kind of city Koblenz is!)
From Koblenz Central Station (Koblenz Hauptbahnhof / Koblenz Hbf), it takes about one hour by direct train to Cochem. During the ride, you can enjoy the scenery along the Moselle River the entire way.
In Germany, there are generally no ticket gates, so you need to purchase your ticket in advance. A conductor comes around to check your ticket, similar to Japan’s Shinkansen system.
Since I was visiting several anime pilgrimage sites within Germany, I purchased a Eurail pass online — specifically the “One Country Pass” (for travel within Germany).
Take seat on the left side of the train in the direction of travel — that’s the side facing the Moselle River. As you approach Cochem, you’ll see the same view that Violet saw from the train. Don’t miss your photo opportunity!
Cochem Station
Cochem Station is a small station located near the town center. The center is just a short walk away. This town center served as the model for the streets where Taylor and Benedict delivered mail together in the side story. Walking a little from the station, I strolled along the Moselle River. It’s peaceful and relaxing, and you can get a perfect view of Cochem Castle!
Now, let’s head back to the town center and visit the real-life model locations!

The town center is lined with charming houses, and the narrow alleyways twist and connect like something out of a fairy tale.

This area is around Branntweingässchen. The buildings looked exactly like they did in the side story. However, in the anime, laundry was hanging from wall to wall across the alley. That custom is more common in Mediterranean countries like Spain and Italy rather than in Germany. I once read in a setting book that Leiden (the fictional country) is meant to be a mix of various cultures, so perhaps the creators intentionally blended elements from different cultural regions.

This is a gastropub (a pub that also serves substantial meals). It almost feels like you could see Taylor climbing the stairs here.

This photo was taken on a small street facing the Boutique Hotel Lohspeicher Garni. The plants look a bit different compared to the anime, but the buildings themselves are very similar.

As I wandered from alley to alley, the scenery looked so much like the side story that I felt like Taylor and Benedict might appear at any moment.
Model location 4: Steps – Another mailbox scene
Suddenly, I saw a staircase in front of me! Could this be the model for the scene where Benedict walks down the stairs? In the anime, colorful buildings could be seen in the background, which isn’t the case here, so I can’t be certain. Still, I didn’t see any other staircases in the town center.

Cochem Castle – Model for the Girls’ Academy Exterior
Cochem Castle, also known as Reichsburg Castle, served as the model for the girls’ academy in the side story. It stands on a hill next to the town center.
It’s about a 15-minute uphill walk from the center, but with the beautiful scenery, it feels quick. (By the way, the interior model for the academy is Mannheim Palace in Germany.)

Here is the entrance to Cochem Castle! It looks exactly like the opening scene where Violet visits the academy. Right after passing through the gate, there’s an area where you can see gargoyles and overlook the Moselle River.

The gargoyle also appeared in the opening scene. Only this area and the souvenir shop across from it are free to enter. To go further inside the castle, you must join a paid guided tour.

The tours are offered in English and German, depending on the time. As of November 2022, the tour costs €7 per person and lasts about 40 minutes. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early to sign up. You can register inside the souvenir shop.
I joined the first tour in the morning. People gradually gathered in front of the gate.
However, there was a problem…Although it was supposed to be an English tour, the guide started speaking German. I thought, “Wait, is this the wrong tour?” So I talked to the guide. Apparently, just before the tour began, the guide had asked the group (in German), “Where is everyone from? Oh, mostly local? Then even though it’s scheduled as an English tour, let’s do it in German.” Since I don’t understand German, I didn’t realize this had happened. I insisted, “I’m from Japan, so please do it in English!” After finishing in German, the guide kindly explained everything again in English just for me. I also received a Japanese paper guide with descriptions of each room.
So even if you don’t understand English very well, you’ll manage!
The guide spoke English, so if something seems wrong, don’t hesitate to speak up (lol)!

Overall, the exterior of Cochem Castle was exactly like the side story, but the interior didn’t feel like a direct model. Still, the tour itself was very enjoyable, so I definitely recommend joining! Since you move from place to place quickly, don’t miss your photo opportunities!
View from the Lift – Model for the Opening Scene
This landscape can be seen from the Pinnerkreuz observation deck (Cochemer Sesselbahn Talstation). You take a lift located about a 10-minute walk from the town center. It’s like a ski lift.
Wear comfortable clothing! Sneakers are a must, and it’s better to carry a backpack so both hands are free. Use a neck strap for your phone so you don’t drop it. If you’re afraid of heights, don’t push yourself too much.
Bonus – Lunch
For lunch, I happened to find a German restaurant near the town center called Gaststätte Noss. The food was reasonably priced and the service was good. It’s fairly large, so there are plenty of seats. I recommend it! I had a farmer’s omelet (Bauernomelett) for lunch.

Summary
Cochem is a relaxed town with relatively few tourists. The streets are beautiful and unique, and I highly recommend visiting even if you’re not there for anime pilgrimage purposes. It’s a bit far from major cities, but the train ride along the Moselle River is beautiful and worth it. Many areas aren’t covered by Google Street View, and there’s so much charm you can only experience in person.
From a fan’s perspective, the scenery and building exteriors look exactly like the side story, but the interiors and cultural details aren’t exact copies. Instead, they feel intentionally blended from various regions. I think many Violet Evergarden pilgrimage sites are like that.
After this, I took an evening train from Cochem to Koblenz and then to Frankfurt — about a four-hour journey.
Starting the next day, I used Frankfurt as a base to visit Mannheim Palace, the model for the academy’s dance scene.
I also visited Heidelberg, which served as the model for Gardarik.

と、ここでびっくりしたんですが、雨の中レターフラックのバス停までとぼとぼ歩いていると、路線バスが私の真横に停止。歩いてて邪魔してしまったかなと思ってさらに道端に避けようとしたら、なんとドアが開いて運転手さんが「どこまで行くの？」と。レターフラックまで、というと、「雨で大変でしょう、すぐそこだからと乗りなよ」と10分くらいの道中、バスに乗せてくれました。心細かったのでありがたかったです、ありがとうお兄さん！ちなみにお金渡そうとしたら「いいよいいよ、Have a nice day!」と受け取ってくれなかった笑。(でもお礼をしたかったので、路線名と日時を入れて、バス会社にお礼メールをしておきました。ただ日本だとバス途中で止めたらルール的にダメなので、念の為内容はボヤかして、親切にしてくれて感謝とだけ打っておきました:))。アイルランド、優しくて温かい人が多くて、とても思い出深い旅でした！
